WELCOME TO THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION!

– Your Chair will be Phyu Tkine –

Hi all, my name is Phyu, a senior (gasp!) at Rhodes, majoring in International Studies. I am thrilled to be part of the 2020 Mid-South Model United Nations Conference! I was originally born in Myanmar (Burma) from a  but I moved to Singapore when I was 10 and resided there ever since. So the question ‘where are you from?’ can be a little tricky. It was probably my confusing identity that had led me to fall in love with something larger than one nation-state such as the UN and all things related. At Rhodes, I serve at the President of Society of World’s Affairs Today (SoWAT) where we organize little seminars on current affairs. I am also an International Peer Advisor where I welcome international students into the big Rhodes family and a diplomat where I give tour to prospective students and their families. 2019 has been a wild year for me as I studied abroad in Seoul, South Korea and interned in Germany during the Summer. The past 7 months I spent exploring different places and cultures is time and memories I wouldn’t trade for the world. But for now, I am happy to be back to my regularly scheduled life. On a normal days, if I am not busy hanging out with my friends or spending the day at a volunteer site, you will probably find me binge watching Netflix or looking up new restaurants in Memphis.
