Conference Info

Dear honorable delegates and advisors,

I am so pleased to extend you a welcome to MidSouth Model United Nations! Held for thirty-eight years now, MSMUN is a tradition that we look forward to every February. Listening to world-class delegates debate global issues on our small campus gives me so much hope for the future of our world leaders. This year, I hope we can yet again facilitate an environment for each and every one of you to share ideas and feel heard.

As you’re on our website homepage, go ahead and browse through all the committees we are operating at MSMUN38. I am so proud of the team we have assembled and the debate they will be leading. There are a few pinned pages for your reference that include Conference Info and Registration Information. These pages are also accessible via the sidebar menu.

As you move into registration, I hope you will find we have ironed out the kinks from last year’s changes. As the Advisor or Head Delegate, you will be able to disseminate the link directly to your students after registration of your school, rather than an open Registration. Please, though, do note that you must register your school in order that MSMUN have estimated headcounts for Dining Services and campus room reservations.

When registering, though, it is important to note that first-year MUN delegates are more than welcome to join any GA committee they choose but are ineligible to participate in Crisis Committees. Before beginning registration, please look through this year’s committees to see what interests you, learn more about our chairs, and read through the background guides on which they worked so tirelessly.

At the conference, we hope that you find improvements in our crisis environment as well. Director Jennifer Weissman and Assistant Director Bella Harden have worked year-round from the other side of the world, to ensure your students have wonderful and character building debate experiences. It is our aim to facilitate and simulate real-world experiences for delegates, whether debating current UN Security Council matters or debating in Star Wars: The Jedi Council. For more information about our Director and Assistant Director, or any member of the Secretariat, please visit our Secretariat Page! For more information about the individual committees, feel free to visit their individual pages.

Please see the calendar below for important dates regarding MSMUN38. If you have any questions before the conference, please feel free to reach out to a member of the Secretariat at MSMUN@rhodes.edu. If you are looking for the 2019 MSMUN welcome packet, that can be found at the bottom of this page!

Be sure to follow us on social media for updates and helpful hints regarding our conference. If you post about MSMUN38, make sure to use the hashtag, #MSMUN38.

Sincerely,

Emily Adeline Perry, Secretary General, and the entire MSMUN 2019 Secretariat

Wondering Where to Stay?

Hotel Suggestions in Memphis

** Courtesy of Rhodes College

We also have many smaller delegations who find it more economically feasible to stay in an Air-BnB, rather than booking multiple hotel rooms for delegates. If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out, but note that MSMUN does not book hotels on behalf of traveling delegations.

Need a Crash-Course in How to Debate?

MSMUN requires position papers from each delegate – one on each topic from your committee. Chairs review papers before the conference and select the best position papers to receive awards at our closing ceremonies. Also, note that should a delegate choose not to submit position papers, they are ineligible for any and all awards.
